Environmental Improvements – Summer 2025 Recap

When a place is attractive, clean and well-maintained, the whole town benefits. Over the summer, Your Bromley BID has carried out a range of improvements to make a more welcoming town centre.

Gum Removal Following a successful application for external funding, Your Bromley BID is working in in partnership with Bromley Council to tackle one of the town centre’s stickiest problems: chewing gum. Operatives are using specialised machines to remove gum from pavements, employing a heat and detergent system that is environmentally responsible, biodegradable, phosphate-free, non-corrosive, and neutral in pH. Chewing gum is not covered by the Council’s standard street cleaning contract.

Phone Box Removal

Businesses and residents have raised concerns about the dreadful state of the phone boxes across the Town Centre. Sadly, they had become magnets for antisocial behaviour – and in some cases, not a single call was made from them in the past year.

After months of discussions with BT, we’re pleased to see the first two phone boxes finally removed.

Jet Washing As part of ongoing efforts to improve public spaces, jet washing is being undertaken in Bromley’s pedestrianised areas. This work targets high-footfall locations where dirt and grime accumulate, making the town centre brighter and more inviting.

Floral Installations Our seasonal floral displays have brightened Bromley town centre throughout spring and summer, featuring hanging baskets, flower cubes, and flower towers. These vibrant installations bring colour to streets and public spaces, creating a welcoming environment for residents, visitors, and businesses.

Market Square Tree Beds Your Bromley BID planted 300 trailing petunias in previously barren tree beds in Market Square, creating vibrant bursts of colour. This project, undertaken in partnership with the Bromley Safer Neighbourhood Board, with generous support from Coolings and assistance from officers of the London Fire Brigade Bromley, exemplifies the power of community collaboration in enhancing public spaces.

Through these initiatives, Your Bromley BID is committed to creating a town centre that is visually appealing, welcoming, and economically vibrant for everyone.
