Step inside Giraffe at The Glades

Posted on: February 20, 2018

The team at Your Bromley have been opening the door to introduce different people within the BID area. Today we’re opening the door to Giraffe to meet Michael Glover and learning all about working at Giraffe on The Glades' restaurant terrace, situated through the double doors next to Debenhams on the lower mall.

We asked Michael a couple of questions about him and his role as Restaurant Manager

Tell us about you

I’m Michael, the newly promoted General Manager at Giraffe in Bromley. I’ve been with giraffe since 2012, and started out cleaning tables at the weekends. Over the years I’ve progressed in each role across 3 different Giraffe Restaurants to where I am today.

Tell us about Giraffe in the Glades

We will be celebrating 2 years at the Glades this July, you can find us in the restaurant terrace overlooking the lovely and leafy Queen’s Gardens. We serve feel good food from around the world and cater well for our young diners. We have a beautiful, vibrant restaurant for any occasion, from a family dinner to a business breakfast. We were recognised last year as the ‘Best Food Retailer’and were ‘Highly Commended’ at the Bromley Business Awards for our breakfasts too.

What do like best about Bromley?

I love to get out of the restaurant wherever possible, and meet the amazing people around Bromley. We spoil a retailer around the town every week with some gifts and its an absolute pleasure meeting all the dedicated leaders working in the borough. There really is a great sense of community which you don’t find everywhere.

Why eat here?

I’d recommend Giraffe for anyone who wants to try something new, we have it all! Malay Curry, Smokey Burger’s and some fantastic Nachos. We have 2 for 1 cocktails Sunday to Friday nights and I would certainly suggest visiting us for a coffee one morning! Our beans have and very high quality rating!

Any career advise?

I’d advise anyone looking to progress in their job roles to go extra mile, teach yourself something new every day. Knowledge is power so never stop building it, keep the passion and do everything with a smile. You really are just as good as the people around you, sharing your skills and knowledge and investing in people is really important to me.

Where do you see yourself in five years?

Wherever I may be in 5 years I hope to be working with amazing people as I am in Bromley at the moment, and I hope to teach and progress the people around me to the extent I have been in the past 6 years. I see myself striving and grafting to be better week in week out.

How do you relax?

In my time out of the restaurant I like to get out in the open, a National trust venue with my partner is always a great refresh. Otherwise I like to be as active as possible. This September I’m participating in The 100KM Thames Path Challenge with my brother to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support.

What did you have for breakfast this morning?

This morning I had one of our signature breakfasts – the Huevos Rancheros from Mexico. Plenty to keep you going for a busy Monday!
