Loose Change 4 Real Change

Posted on: March 20, 2019

A regular comment from businesses is that the number of street beggars around the town appears to be on the increase, and they would like beggars to move on. Your Bromley has launched a campaign to address that.

The aim is to discourage kind hearted staff or visitors to the town centre giving cash direct to beggars in the town centre, so that the town becomes less attractive for begging. Posters promoting the scheme, which encourages donations instead to Bromley Homeless Shelter are gradually appearing on display throughout the town centre, and businesses in Orpington, Penge, and Beckenham have also jumped on board. House shaped donation boxes to receive donations to Bromley Homeless Shelter instead of to beggars are now in:

  • Dreams
  • Joe’s Kitchen
  • Offspring Bromley
  • Papa Johns
  • Slaters Menswear
  • Tech-Check
  • Mr Simms Bromley
  • Lakeland
  • Debenhams Café
  • Barclays Bank
  • Bromley Central Library

If you’d like to take a donation box (a sticker for your door or window is also available), or simply to display the poster for either public or your staff room, please get in touch with enquiries@yourbromley.com. Bromley Homeless Shelter provides a Night Shelter during the winter months and a specialist advice service throughout the year. Your Bromley is sensitive to the needs of homeless people and encourages anyone in that position to take up available services by contacting Bromley council in the first instance.
