Business rates and grants from Bromley Council

We've been working closely with Bromley Council to get the recently announced support schemes implemented as quickly as possible to help the businesses in Bromley.

Retail Discount (occupied retail/leisure/hospitality type properties)

The scheme assists retail, leisure and hospitality type properties with a rateable value less than £51,000, reducing their 2020/21 charge by 100%. If you are in receipt of this retail discount then it will be automatically awarded to you and your 2020/21 annual bill will be reissued. If you feel your property now qualifies for the scheme, then Bromley Council will be in touch to request further information shortly.

Retail Relief Grant (Occupied retail/leisure/hospitality type properties with a rateable value less than £51,000)

The government will grant up to £10,000 to all retail/leisure/hospitality type properties in receipt of Retail Discount, with a rateable value up to £15,000; and £25,000 to those with a rateable value between £15,001 and £51,000. Grant payments will be paid by BACS. Please complete the business rates COVID-19 grant request form to confirm your details (including your bank details), so we can process the grant payment for you. Small Business Relief Grant (accounts in receipt of Small Business Relief)

The government will grant up to £10,000 to all accounts in receipt of Small Business Relief. Grant payments will be paid by BACS. Please complete the business rates COVID-19 grant request form to confirm your details (including your bank details), so we can process the grant payment for you.

If you do not qualify for any Retail Discount and your business has been negatively impacted by the coronavirus outbreak meaning you are not able to pay your business rates instalments, please confirm your position in writing to Bromley Council by completing the Revenues and Benefits contact form. Government Measures to Help Businesses and the Self-employed

On the evening of Friday 20th March, the Chancellor announced additional measures to support businesses, employees and self-employed affected by Covid-19.

A range of business support measures have been made available to UK businesses and employees.

A new government helpline is available where you can get advice and financial help from government-backed schemes.

Coronavirus Business Interruption Loan Scheme will help businesses affected by Coronavirus get access to bank lending and overdrafts. For loans up to £5m the government is providing a guarantee up to 80% for each loan. Find Out More

Business Rates Holiday for Retail, Hospitality & Leisure sectors in England will not have to pay business rates for the financial year 2020/21. Find Out More.

Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme will support all UK employers with a PAYE scheme to continue paying part of their employees’ salary for those that would otherwise have been laid off during this crisis. Find Out More

Furlough generally means temporary leave of absence from work. Furlough leave has been introduced by the government to mean leave offered which keeps employees on the payroll without them working. Small Business Grant Funding is available from Local Authorities to support small businesses that already pay little or no business rates because of small business rate relief (SBRR). Find Out More

Statutory Sick Pay Rebate will allow small and medium-sized businesses to reclaim Statutory Sick Pay (SSP) paid for staff sickness absence due to Coronavirus. Find Out More

Time To Pay service will help all businesses and self-employed people in financial distress, and with outstanding tax liabilities, may be eligible to receive support with their tax affairs through HMRC’s Time To Pay service. Find Out More

Covid-19 Corporate Financing Facility (CCFF) means that the Bank of England will buy short-term debt from larger companies. Find Out More

Automatic VAT Deferral will mean UK Registered businesses will not need to make VAT payments normally due with VAT returns during this period. Taxpayers will be given until the end of the 2020-21 tax year to pay any liabilities that have accumulated during the deferral period. Find Out More

Income Tax Deferral for the Self-Employed will allow Income Tax payments due in July 2020 under the Self-Assessment system will be deferred to January 2021. Find Out More

First Mile customers

Please note First Mile are still running a waste and recycling service for all businesses providing a critical service during the Coronavirus lockdown. The BID have stopped the allocation of free recycling till further notice.

Businesses are encouraged to use up all their current stock of sacks and tapes and to order further supplies direct with First Mile by calling 0800 612 9894.

Don’t forget, you can log in at any time using the First Mile Portal to manage all of your services.
