Bromley certainly does cater for everyone’s taste buds - from quirky independents in Bromley North, fine dining in East Street, cafés in Bromley South, to established nationals in The Glades.

Running from Saturday 26th May until and including Sunday 3rd June Your Bromley is pleased to bring you ‘A Taste of Bromley’ running for 9 days, we have produced a comprehensive guide, showing all the great places to eat and drink in Bromley.

Not just content with what's on offer in the town centre it also includes a great competition to 'Dine Free for a Year in The Glades'* sponsored by The Glades. Diner’s Inn – High Street North ✷

Partridge Pub - High Street North ✷

Housed in the former majestic National Provincial Bank, built in 1927, this traditional pie and ale public house offers the best of British on its menu. There can be few better pub dishes in the world than pie and mash, washed down with a pint of real ale. Besides pies and traditional British classics, there are new specials available every day to ensure there’s always something new to tempt your tastebuds.


The Railway Tavern - opposite Bromley North station ✷

Housed in a former hotel, The Railway opposite Bromley North station. Serving modern British pub fare in a relaxed atmosphere, using only the best fresh and locally sourced ingredients. You’ll never go hungry with a variety of smaller sharing plates and hearty mains on offer and, on Sundays, you can expect traditional Sunday roasts with all the trimmings.


The Cow & Pig - East Street

The Greyhound - High Street North ✷

Set slightly back from the High Street, The Greyhound occupies the site of an earlier public house of the same name. The Greyhound was first recorded in 1797 and this may well have been the year it was built. Its predecessor was a three-storey Georgian-style building, with a large sign overhanging the pavement. Now the ‘new’ Greyhound has a great conservatory, open fires in winter, friendly atmosphere, friendly staff and is a great destination for a fun night out.

Belgo - The Glades Restaurant Terrace, down the slope at Zara ✷

In South London, you can find Belgian cuisine at its finest. You’re spoilt for choice as the menu offers various flavoured croquettes, classics such as carbonade and stoemp mash, moules mariniére and rotisserie chicken. Leave room for dessert and indulge in chocolate fondue or waffles. The restaurant also has a large selection of Belgian beers – both on tap and bottled.

Papillon Brasserie - High Street North ✷

Papillon is a lively and cosy independent French restaurant and champagne bar that opened its doors in 2016. On the menu, you’ll find a friendly taste of French regional cuisine. Come on in to get a taste of the tempting menu, the range of wines and cocktails, or even just for a perfectly made tea or coffee.

Franco Manca - Widmore Road

Ah, the home of the sourdough pizza. The pizza base is made from slow-rising sourdough (minimum 20 hours) and is baked in a wood burning 'tufae' brick oven made on site by specialised artisans from Naples. The slow levitation and blast cooking process lock in the flour’s natural aroma and moisture giving a soft and easily digestible crust. As a result, the edge (cornicione) is excellent and shouldn’t be discarded.

A friendly, buzzing, authentic family run Turkish restaurant full of life and atmosphere. The minute you walk through the door, your senses tell you what Havet is all about: freshness, quality food and a great dining experience.


Papayaya - High Street South

Delicious and irresistible authentic Asian street food. The exotic flavours will lighten up any palate.

Krispy Kreme - The Glades Lower Mall near Boots ✷

Heavenly tasty doughnuts made fresh every day and since they are all filled, topped, glazed and decorated by hand, each and every one tastes scrumptious. There are so many varieties to choose from, including the signature original glazed, strawberries and kreme, chocolate dreamcake and glazed raspberry. For all coffee lovers, there’s a range of hot drinks served exactly how you like them, lovingly made for you by their dedicated baristas, to enjoy in store or on-the-go. Their deliciously creamy milkshakes range features irresistible flavours, inspired by Krispy Kreme’s classic doughnuts. The only tricky thing will be choosing which one to try first.

Whether you’re looking for an extra special birthday cake, a cheesecake to top off a dinner party, office treats a simply to self-indulge, the team at Lola’s are on hand to whisk, pipe and sprinkle some happiness into your day.

Bromley town centre's own fish monger, Simon from B&J Fisheries on Widmore Road, has kindly allowed us to use a traditional family recipe of his.


Roast Sea Bass with Tomatoes, Thyme, and Lemon

  • Prep time: 10-12 minutes
  • Cooking time: 31-40 minutes
  • Serves: 4
  • Skill level: Easy Peasy

Ingredients:

  • 1 whole sea bass (about 1.4kg), gutted and cleaned, you could also use Sea Bream.
  • 2tbsp rapeseed oil, plus extra for greasing
  • 7 shallots, thinly sliced
  • 6 cloves garlic, chopped
  • 1 lemon, thinly sliced
  • 4 thyme sprigs, plus extra to garnish
  • 4 parsley sprigs, plus extra, to garnish
  • 1tbsp cracked coriander seeds
  • 400g can chopped tomatoes
  • 500g sautéed potatoes and 320g steamed green beans, to serve

The method

  1. Preheat the oven to 200C/fan 180C/gas mark 6. Grease the base of a dish just big enough to fit the whole sea bass with oil.
  2. Score the skin of the seabass, season with salt and pepper and lay in the prepared dish.
  3. Place some of the shallots, garlic, lemon slices, thyme, parsley and coriander seeds inside the fish. Scatter the rest over the fish. Drizzle with the oil, pour over the tomatoes and cover with tin foil.
  4. Place in the oven for approximately 20-25 minutes, until the flesh is flaky and cooked through. Serve at the table in the cooking dish, garnished with the thyme and chopped parsley, with the sautéed potatoes and green beans.
